Characterized by colorful rolling highlands and a wealth of natural treasures to explore, you might think you know the Ozarks—but look a little closer and you’ll see: the majesty of the terrain is rivaled only by an equally enchanting aquatic scene.
From clear blue springs to equally alluring lakes, the Ozarks are home to a wealth of on-the-water destinations to enjoy. Read on as we share a few of our favorites…including the water sports haven of Table Rock Lake.
Springing into spring
It is springtime, after all, so why not explore the cool, blue, pristine bodies of water that make the Ozarks so unique? We’re talking about the springs themselves. Small and sometimes out-of-the-way, these cozy swimming holes are the perfect complement to a more high-octane excursion on one of the region’s larger bodies of water.
Start simple. In Arkansas, you can visit a body of water that looks like something pulled straight out of the Caribbean: Falling Water Falls. Here you can watch powder-blue water descend in a misty, ethereal spray down to the pool below—you can even come in for a swim during warm weather!
Venture up to Missouri to see a historic spot, the Alley Spring Mill. The bright red building contrasts beautifully with the cool blue water below, making this one of Missouri’s most famous photo ops. When the view isn’t enough, jump into the water at nearby Jacks Fork River for a cool way to spend your day.
Of course, these spots are just the beginning of your Ozarks adventure…
For fast-paced adventures…
When you’re ready for something a little more fast-paced, explore the famous Table Rock Lake. Located near the Missouri-Arkansas border, this spacious lake – at more than 50,000 square acres—is a testament to the aquatic allure of the Ozarks, a must-see destination for anyone who loves the water…or going fast!
The lake itself contorts into a winding shape, offering plenty of curved, meandering shorelines to explore. Lots of choice watersports action will take place on the eastern “leg” of the lake, just offshore of Table Rock State Park where you can spend the night in a cozy cabin or camp setting… then hit the water first thing in the morning.
You can continue wakeboarding or cruising fun as you travel the lake westward, where you’ll find charming on-the-water communities like that of Indian Point or Coney Island (the other Coney Island, that is).
