The American Midwest might be known for some pretty stellar aquatic gems--most notably the Great Lakes--but west of the Mississippi, you're sure to find something just as special.

Seattle, Washington is home to a few "great lakes" of its own--Union, Washington, and Sammamish, to be precise--each with its own unique shape, spirit, and (of course) set of breathtaking views.

With such abundance in freshwater excursions in the area, it's easy to "lake hop" and see it all on one trip. Make the first stop on your itinerary Seattle Water Sports, a Vortex dealer who's been in the area for nearly 20 years--they're your one-stop-shop for exploring these destinations, and all the other trips (both big and small) the Pacific Northwest has to offer. They'll also be sure to outfit you in the right gear and accessories for wakeboarding and other water sport adventures.

Now--without further ado--here's a closer look at the lakes that make Seattle a boater's must-do.

Lake Union

Lake Union is truly the metropolitan lake. It's not just skirted on one end by Seattle's cityscape, but is entirely surrounded by it--making for a unique backdrop to any day trip on the water.
The sparkling lake, in addition to its metropolitan views, offers stunning scenery of Mount Rainier and, on one side, even the famous Space Needle. Though sailboats reign supreme on Tuesday nights over the summer (when the famous Duck Dodge races take place), watercraft of every kind can find a home on the lake--from kayaks to wakeboard boats and small setups for anglers. There are even the famous floating houses that add charm and character to the lake; for some, the aquatic excitement of Lake Union is literally right in their backyard!

Lake Washington

If you head east from Lake Union, you'll stumble upon another area gem: Lake Washington. Bigger, and bordered by more natural scenery (the Cascades, of course, as well as vividly green lake shores), this lake gets you closer to outdoor adventures at spots like Warren G. Magnuson or Seward State Park. Each has plenty of room for you to stretch your legs, have a lakefront picnic, or cheer on friends and family as they perform wakeboarding stunts on the cool blue water.

Lake Sammamish

Finally, we have Lake Sammamish--perhaps the most naturally-surrounded of the three lakes. The deep, secluded lake has long been a haven for water sport enthusiasts, especially water skiers--the sport has a history on the lake thanks to its reputation for industry developments and innovations, with many new models and ideas being tested on its abundant surface.

As is always the case, words can't convey quite how majestic Seattle's lakes (or their surrounding mountain vistas) feel and look in person. Count on Seattle Water Sports and your Vortex to get you a front-row seat to local water sport adventures, wildlife cruises, and everything in between.
