Multitasking to the Extreme

Multitasking to the Extreme

Most of us can walk and talk, or snack while watching a TV show. But when it comes to multitasking, some in the field of water sports have taken that mission to extreme ends.

Take a look at today’s blog to see some of the most daring multitasking feats on the water!

Skarping

First things first, let’s start with a truly one-of-a-kind hybrid sport: skarping. While it may not be widespread just yet, this unique pastime was started by the guide group “Peoria Carp Hunters,” the Illinois team that brings out water lovers with a purpose: to rid local waterways of the invasive Asian carp species.

It’s a noble effort, one they improved upon by adding a unique edge to their retrieval method. The Hunters invented “skarping,” which involves drumming up action on the water with a boat—then, a water skier being towed behind catches the frenzied carp as they leap from the surface, using a net to catch them then toss them into a mini basketball hoop contraption (which, naturally, is affixed to a floating tube!). If it sounds complicated, that’s because it probably is. While the team handles this unique breed of carp catching on their own, it’s surely fun to see them in action.

Solving a Rubik’s cube while waterskiing

Most of us would have trouble solving a Rubik’s cube… much less doing it while on a pair of water skis! But that’s just what one skier did earlier this summer. Joey Fratelli shared a video of him keeping up his balance on the skis while solving the Rubik’s cube with one hand—or occasionally two, slipping one arm into the rope handle for better leverage. It’s a daunting task, but it’s ultimately achieved… and for many water skiers with a thirst for fun, it’s probably just feasible enough to go out and try.

Singing, surfing, and playing guitar

In 2013, ambitious singer-surfer-guitarist Chris Hau attempted the ambitious task of doing all his hobbies at once, on the water. You can see his successful attempt online today! It makes us wonder if we could even do two out of those three tasks at the same time.

Would you try any of these bizarre balancing acts? Let us know what you can do below!
