Meet Amityville: A Gorgeous Stretch of Shoreline

Meet Amityville: A Gorgeous Stretch of Shoreline

From Fire Island to the illustrious Hamptons, New York’s Long Island is well-known as a summertime destination.

But come fall, just before the seasonal chill sets in, there is still plenty to see and do—a delightful period of “in-between” enjoyed best by those boaters who venture off the beaten path to find it.

For these travelers, Massapequa and the shores of Amityville provide the perfect starting-off point for a number of Long Island adventures.

Read on as we get to know this gorgeous stretch of shoreline. Take a look.

Bringing in the new season

There is still plenty to enjoy on Long Island as we cruise into fall! Soon, your favorite shoreline vistas will be awash in the classic colors of the season, and boating alongside them will be an added treat to your itinerary. When you’re ready to hit the water for yourself, some terrific attractions to explore includes Sag Harbor off The Hamptons that is a popular wakeboarding stop, or the shores of Jones Beach.

It’s called Long Island for a reason, after all—from the south side over to Montauk, great cruising abounds, and that’s not even to mention the expanse of the Long Island Sound up north, which puts you in prime position to explore some of New York’s (and Connecticut’s) favorite stomping grounds.

Boat slips with floating docks, water and electric access, bathrooms, picnic spots and a gas dock make it easy to refuel and refresh when you’re back on shore for the day (or in between journeys).

Visit your neighbors for extra fun

Boaters living in or near Amityville have the benefit of being near plenty of scenic places. Other than enjoying the many Long Island destinations, a boat ride to neighboring Manhattan, Staten Island and Brooklyn may be worth your while. A trip to see the New York City skyline is always a satisfying experience. Let’s not forget about the lovely and iconic Statue of Liberty! She’s always a sight to see. Brooklyn’s Coney Island is an enjoyable spot to have some fun in and out of the water. And at the nearby neighbor New Jersey, you can learn some history and see a beautiful view of the Sandy Hook Lighthouse around Fort Hancock.

As the colder season nears

The fall season marks the start of colder weather and unfortunately, the season may not last long in the area.  After you bask in the last bit of the year’s boating season, consider when, where and how you’ll prepare your Vortex boat for the cooler weather.

If you’re in the Amityville area, take a look at the weather protection services at Amity Harbor Marine. They know the area, and its water-loving community, inside and out—since they’ve been doing this for more than 60 years! That experience shows in the sheer care and know-how with which they help every boater who comes by to dock, get service or simply say “hi—where’s a good spot to cruise? Fish? Board?”

So, are you ready to embark on the last bit of a 2018 Atlantic adventure? From the charm, character and cruisin’ culture of Amityville and its neighbors on the Long Island shore, open-water thrills are still available to enjoy so get boating soon!
