Wild horses, historical charm, and endless expanses of nearly-untouched shores. North Carolina's Outer Banks are the favorite of many a traveler for good reasons--and if you arrive by boat, Vortex dealer Manteo Marine is here to help you see it all.
The local Manteo team knows the area inside and out, and can help you find the Vortex model that will let you experience it in style and comfort. Before you go, get started with our virtual tour of some of the Outer Banks' best destinations--from beloved beaches to best-kept secrets to the Atlantic waters that tie it all together.
Jockey's Ridge State Park and the Roanoke Sound
All of our favorite coastal destinations have beaches--but how many have dunes as impressive as these? At Jockey's Ridge State Park, you will be able to experience the Outer Banks' famously sloping dunes, the tallest of their kind in the Eastern United States!
After a long day of swimming along the sandy shores or performing tricks and flips on your wakeboard, the dunes offer a chance to dry off, soak up the sun, and enjoy a thoroughly fun experience. If you like wakeboarding, then sandboarding will be right up your alley. You'll be able to cruise up and down the rolling dunes and get to know a new kind of medium, one that can't be found just anywhere!
On the water
Of course, the thrills are just as abundant on the water. You can boat on the Roanoke Sound, catch a vivid sunset and enjoy the jet skiing and other water sports the area is prized for. There's a reason why the sound-side stretch of the park is so beloved! Alternatively, you can cruise southward on the Atlantic edge and find Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the first seashore of its kind and a place of refuge for animals on and off the water (including seals who are known to come up to shore and sunbathe!). You can watch the sunrise from the water and cruise (or surf, or ski) past the famous black-and-white lighthouse, a fixture of the seashore and a comforting sight for returning visitors.
The Outer Banks form a part of our history that's older than America itself. It's just one of the historical wonders you'll notice as you explore this enchanting Atlantic hideaway by water.
